Abstract

Saiz kosa kata merupakan elemen penting dalam penguasaan bahasa, khususnya bagi pembelajaran bahasa kedua. Saiz kata menjadi indikator penting dalam menentukan keupayaan seseorang berbahasa dan dikenalpasti mempunyai hubungan dengan faktor tempoh pembelajaran bahasa. Domain perbezaan individu dalam pembelajaran bahasa kedua menunjukkan bahawa faktor tempoh mampu meningkatkan kecekapan bahasa pelajar khususnya aspek kata. Justeru, kajian ini dijalankan bagi mengenal pasti hubungan antara saiz kosa kata dengan faktor tempoh pembelajaran bahasa. Kajian juga bermatlamat menentukan tempoh terbaik bagi mempelajari dan menguasai kosa kata bahasa Arab. Rekabentuk kajian adalah kuantitatif. Sampel kajian terdiri daripada 227 pelajar lepasan sekolah menengah agama aliran kerajaan dan negeri. SPSS V.20 digunakan bagi pengumpulan data dan Ujian Korelasi Spearman rho digunakan bagi menguji hubungan antara saiz kosa kata dengan tempoh pembelajaran bahasa. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa SKK pelajar berkorelasi secara signifikan dengan tempoh belajar bahasa Arab. Ujian Korelasi Spearman rho yang ditadbir menunjukkan nilai r=0.193, n=227, p=0.004. Hubungan antara saiz kosa kata pelajar dan tempoh pembelajaran bahasa berada pada tahap lemah namun terarah secara positif. Arah positif dalam dapatan kajian memberikan petunjuk bahawa semakin lama tempoh pembelajaran bahasa Arab maka semakin besar saiz kosa kata bahasa Arab pelajar. Secara kesimpulannya, kajian menjelaskan bahawa tempoh pembelajaran bahasa mempunyai hubungan dengan saiz kata namun, ia bukan satu-satunya faktor yang mempengaruhi. Ia turut  berkait rapat dengan beberapa faktor-faktor perbezaan individu yang lain seperti jenis sekolah di peringkat menengah, sijil lepas menengah diduduki dan keberadaan di negara Arab. Kajian akan datang disaran untuk memberikan tumpuan kepada aspek yang tidak dapat disentuh oleh kajian ini seperti dijelaskan sebelumnya.

Vocabulary size is an important element in language proficiency, especially for second language learning. Vocabulary size is an important indicator in determining a person's ability to speak and is identified as having a relationship with the language learning period factor. The domain of individual differences in second language learning indicates that the period factor is able to improve students language proficiency especially word aspects. Thus, this study was conducted to identify the relationship between vocabulary size and language learning duration factors. The study also aims to determine the best period for learning and mastering Arabic vocabulary. The design of the study is quantitative. The study sample consisted of 227 graduates of government and state religious high school. SPSS V.20 was used for data analysis and the Spearman rho Correlation Test was used to test the relationship between vocabulary size and language learning period. The findings of the study show that the SKK of students is significantly correlated with the period of learning Arabic. The administered Spearman rho Correlation Test showed values of r = 0.193, n = 227, p = 0.004. The relationship between student vocabulary size and language learning period is at a weak level but positively directed. The positive direction in the findings of the study indicates that the longer the period of learning Arabic, the greater the size of students' Arabic vocabulary. In conclusion, the study explains that the period of language learning is related to vocabulary size of students it is not the only factor. Vocabulary size is also closely related to several other individual differences factors such as the type of school at the secondary level, the post-secondary certificate occupied and the presence in the Arab countries. Upcoming studies are advised to focus on the untouchable aspects of this study as explained earlier.
